Affiliated projects

A successful Downtown plan makes room for other energy and other projects that can work hand-in-hand with the visions of goals of the City and interested parties. These projects are just some highlights of what can happen when groups and individuals can work in tandem.

A Sharrow indicator gets painted on Roosevelt Avenue

An affiliated project for temporary bike striping for the Blackstone Valley Bikeway is currently under construction and sharrows have begun appearing on Roosevelt Avenue. This project, initiated by the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, is an example of successful multi-city cooperation. Congratulations to all who helped make it happen.

What's a Sharrow? A sharrow (think "shared roadway marking") is a visual indicator that cyclists are going to be in that space. It's not a bike lane, per se, but merely an indicator that drivers need to be aware of other motorists using the road. In this instance, they are used to mark the connections between bike paths until the full path can be constructed. (See Wikipedia for more general information)
